Groat does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. The only things that ever leave your device are what you export, and a question you ask Groat.
Every expense you record — the amount, category, date, and any note — is saved in a database file inside the app’s own storage on your device. So are your settings and your categories.
Nothing, unless you choose to send it.
Apart from Ask Groat, described below, Groat makes no network requests. It has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs that phone home.
Data leaves the app when you tap Export. Groat writes a CSV or Excel file and hands it to your device’s standard share sheet, and you pick where it goes — Files, Mail, a messaging app, whatever you choose. That destination is outside Groat, and whatever you send it to is governed by that app’s own privacy policy.
Ask Groat lets you ask a question about your own money in your own words. It is the one part of Groat that goes online, and it only does so when you ask.
When you send a question, Groat sends the following to an AI provider to produce the answer: your question, the earlier turns of that conversation, a summary of the last twelve months of your entries (monthly totals per category and currency, and your budgets), and your most recent entries — their date, category and amount, and their notes only if you choose to include them for that question.
The providers are Google (Gemini), Groq and OpenRouter, tried in that order; the question goes to one of them. What they do with it is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Groat keeps no copy: the conversation lives in the app only until you close it, and Groat has no server of its own.
Nothing is sent if you never open Ask Groat, and nothing is sent while you are simply looking at the screen. Before each question goes, the screen shows exactly what would be shared, and nothing leaves until you send it.
You can delete all expenses at any time from Settings. Deleting the app removes its database along with it. Because nothing is stored anywhere else, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no account to close.
Groat collects no data from anyone, including children.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
